04.12.06 The charity Slug and Lettuce has now closed

We thank the local papers - The Hampshire Chronicle and The Daily Echo for coverage and Louise Akers, manager of the Slug and Lettuce.

Donna makes the papers again! An extract from The Hampshire Chronicle:

An artist from Sparsholt has hailed an exhibition in Winchester as a big success! Deaf Artist Donna Vokes, 24, launched the show at the Slug and Lettuce pub in The Square in aid of Hampshire Deaf Association, raising £200 on the opening night on Thursday, November 1, through donations and the sale of two of her paintings.
She is donating 30 per cent of the cash raised from each of her works, which are on show at the pub throughout November.
Manager, Louise Akers, has also created a special pavlova and strawberries dessert, with £1 from each pudding sold this month also going to the good cause.
Miss Vokes has also painted a large canvas made up of panels, each featuring a face. The idea is to buy a face\' and donations will also go into the charity\'s coffers.
The former Henry Beaufort School pupil said she thoroughly enjoyed the event.

\"I loved meeting new people and chatting to people about my work and the techniques I use - I thought this would be difficult being deaf, but I survived!\" said Miss Vokes, who now hopes to encourage other cafés, bars and restaurants in the city to do something similar.

She added: \"I am keen to support charities and use my art in a positive way that supports others, acting as a role model to provide opportunities to other artists to generate money to support charities in their work.\'\'

‘I plan to update it on a regular basis (if the blog gets on with me!) and will chat about my practice, what makes me the artist I am today and my influences surrounding me that have mostly been gathered from my travels to Europe and Australia. I will also share my ideas and news from the UK and Australia to fellow artists out there in the hope we can help each other and create a network of support.‘

Evanga Studios is planning to host a new programme called Evanga Fair Trading - art, craft and design in the new year. We will be working to encourage the use of art for charity, as well as supporting and promoting emerging artists worldwide.
